We Need Your Help:

The Foundation For Human Rights in Guatemala (FHRG) is looking for volunteers.

As you may be aware, Guatemala is in a crisis situation.  This past year, the conditions in the country have deteriorated rapidly.  Many compare the current conditions to historic times in the past, which have given rise to social unrest.  Poverty and hunger is widespread and accute; political threats and killings are on a steep increase; virtually none of the agreements made in the Peace Accords, signed in 1997, have been implemented.  And the current government has not been able to address any of these concerns.  Instead it has, in many ways, allowed some of the gains made in the country's infrastructure to regress.

In short -- conditions are worse now than they were before the signing of the Peace Accords.

The Foundation for Human Rights in Guatemala is working hard to coordinate with organizations in Guatemala, as well as abroad, to address these issues.

But we need your help.

Many volunteers are helping through the medium of email, etc.  But

we especially need help from those in the Chicago area,

who might be able to become involved at our meetings and help in carrying out specific tasks.  Some of the tasks include:

translation
research and writing
internet web site maintenance
organizing of publications for news media
coordination of public events
organization of  advocacy and actions on issues
createive ideas

We are looking for leaders

Since we are all volunteers, with limited time and resources, we are looking for people who will make a committment of time and energy, and help others to do so.
